This is a brief overview of a wonderful itinerary that covers the best that Germany has to offer, be it the world famous German engineering might and precision, wholesome German cuisine with its famous beers and bratwursts, pristine landscapes, mighty rivers, quaint medieval towns and two of the world’s leading cities, one, where life is all about taking it slow and embracing its glorious past, whilst the other has risen like a Phoenix from the walls that had imprisoned its spirit for years, to emerge as the most happening city in the world, an undisputed leader in modern music, fashion, street art, night life, alternate lifestyle, and not to forget, the being the financial powerhouseof the European Union.

You will start your travel from Berlin, undoubtedly, the best modern city in the world where you will be staying for four nights. Take in the extraordinary sights and sounds of this city before you proceed to one of the most ancient cities of Europe, Cologne, which was an important riparian city from the Roman times and is a famous pilgrimage centre too. Not many outside Germany know that Cologne is one of the best shopping capitals in the world. It is also the place where Eau de Cologne was born. From here, travel towards Cochem, a quaint little town on the river Moselle, that lies under the shadow of the Burg Eltz on top of the mountain, which is one of Europe’s oldest well preserved castles dating back 700 plus years. From Cochem, travel to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, again an immaculately preserved medieval town, where you can spend overnight and have the town to yourself in the evening devoid of the hordes of day trippers. From here, travel to Munich, a bustling metropolis that still retains the charm of an old town with plenty of car free pedestrian zones, a lovely river flowing through, and a huge central park. Food and beer is the mantra to open the doors to the Bavarian experience, but don’t be fooled by the laid back nature of this city. Munich is one of the centres of cutting edge technologies in the world with many top international companies based here and is also headquarters for companies like BMW and Siemens.

Munich will be your port of exit.

You will be mostly traveling by the super-fast ICE (Intercity Express) trains run by Deutsche Bahn. Germany is well connected by train and even more so by roads, it having the third highest road density in the world.

For those who love to drive, I would recommend you travel from Cochem to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and then further onwards to Munich by road traversing the beautiful Romantic Route. Hiring a car is a breeze in Europe and if you are comfortable with driving on the right side of the road, I highly recommend that you go for it.
